An Arabic and English LMS in Iraq, from Baghdad to Erbil

العراق

Ilmoria is a learning management system for Iraqi private schools, universities and companies that teach in Arabic, English or Kurdish. Teachers run courses, exams and live classes in one place, parents follow progress, and administrators handle admissions and fees. Every screen is available in English and in fully right-to-left Arabic.

Education and training in Iraq

Two education authorities

In federal Iraq, schools fall under the Ministry of Education in Baghdad and universities under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The Kurdistan Region has its own ministries of education and higher education, and Kurdish is the main language of instruction in most of its schools. A group operating in both areas often runs different calendars, curricula and reports for each.

A growing private and international sector

Private schools, colleges and universities have expanded quickly, especially in Baghdad, Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Basra. Many teach maths and science in English or follow international programmes, and families expect regular updates on grades, attendance and fees. That pushes schools to replace paper reports and scattered chat groups with one system.

Blended learning and uneven connectivity

Iraqi schools and universities moved online during the 2020 closures, and many kept some blended teaching afterwards. Internet quality and power supply still vary from city to city, many students join lessons from a phone, and in some years the internet has been cut across much of the country during ministerial exam hours. A platform has to work well in a mobile browser and must not depend on every student attending live.

How Ilmoria fits institutions in Iraq

  • Arabic, English and Kurdish content

Every screen is available in English and fully right-to-left Arabic, and each user switches language with one click. Teachers can write lessons and questions in Kurdish, Arabic or English, and nothing people write is auto-translated. A Kurdish interface is not available today, so ask us if you need one. See how the bilingual interface works.

  • One account for campuses in Baghdad and Erbil

A school group can run each campus as its own school, with its own logo, web address, users and data, and still see central reports across all of them. That suits operators with branches in both federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region on different calendars. Read more about multi-school management.

  • Fees paid in cash or by bank transfer

Student affairs staff record payments by cash, bank transfer, cheque or card, and parents see and print invoices and receipts in the parent portal. Statuses such as overdue, grace period and hold show the finance office which families need a reminder.

  • Self-paced courses with live sessions on top

Students work through self-paced lessons, quizzes and course books whenever they are online, from any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Live classes run on Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams links from a weekly timetable, so a missed session does not stop a student's progress.

  • Certificates employers can check

Course completion, achievement and graduation certificates carry a serial number and a QR code that opens a public verification page. Universities, training centres and companies can issue certificates that a recruiter can check from a phone.

Data protection: what to check

Iraq does not yet have a comprehensive personal data protection law in force, and there is no dedicated data protection authority. The Constitution protects privacy, and general civil-law rules still apply. Until a law is passed, put the safeguards in your contracts: who can access student and employee records, how long data is kept and how it is deleted, how breaches are reported, and which hosting region is used. Institutions in the Kurdistan Region should also check any regional rules. Ilmoria provides consent records, role-based access, audit trails, and data export and deletion on request. Talk to us about your hosting-region requirements.

Questions buyers ask

Can Ilmoria serve schools in both federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region?

Yes. Each school or campus runs as its own space with its own branding, users, calendar and data, so a Baghdad campus and an Erbil campus can follow different curricula and academic breaks. Group administrators still see central reports across every campus, while staff only see the schools they are assigned to.

Does Ilmoria support Kurdish?

Course content can be written in Kurdish, and teachers can mix Kurdish, Arabic and English across lessons and questions. The interface itself is available in English and Arabic today, with a full right-to-left layout for Arabic. If your school needs a Kurdish interface, tell us during your demo so we can discuss it.

How do Iraqi schools collect fees in Ilmoria?

Schools record payments by cash, bank transfer, cheque or card against each student invoice, and online payment gateways can be added on request. Parents see their invoices and receipts in the parent portal and can print them. Statuses such as unpaid, overdue, grace period and hold help the finance office follow up.

How do students in Iraq use Ilmoria on their phones?

Students open Ilmoria in any modern mobile browser and can install it as a web app on their home screen, with no app store download. Self-paced lessons and quizzes let them study whenever their connection allows, not only during live classes. We recommend piloting one course on your students' usual connections before a full rollout.

Can Iraqi universities run exams on Ilmoria?

Yes. Teachers build quizzes and exams with ten question types, time limits, attempt limits and randomised questions, and objective questions are marked automatically. Each attempt gets an integrity score based on browser events such as leaving the tab, and suspicious attempts are flagged for review. Learn more about assessments.
