An English and Arabic LMS for schools and universities in Germany

ألمانيا

Ilmoria is an LMS for institutions in Germany that work in English or Arabic: international schools, Arabic and Islamic education programmes, university Arabic and Islamic studies departments, and language schools and training providers with Arabic-speaking learners. Every screen works in English and in Arabic, fully right to left. There is no German interface, so Ilmoria fits where English or Arabic is the working language.

Education and training in Germany

Sixteen Länder, sixteen school systems

Education is the responsibility of the 16 Länder, each with its own school law, ministry and curricula, coordinated through the Standing Conference of Education Ministers (KMK). Private schools, including international schools, operate under their Land’s rules, and the Länder oversee universities too. Many Länder also provide learning platforms for their public schools, and Ilmoria does not connect to them.

Staggered holidays and recognised qualifications

The school year starts between late July and September, depending on the Land, because summer holidays are staggered. Students finish with qualifications such as the Abitur, while many international schools also offer the IB Diploma or British and American programmes taught in English.

Arabic and Islamic education

Several Länder offer Islamic religious education in public schools, and some offer Arabic as a heritage-language subject. Universities run Arabic and Islamic studies and centres for Islamic theology, and Germany is home to a large Arabic-speaking community, including many families from Syria and Iraq.

Learning management for schools and universities in Germany

  • English and Arabic, not German

Every screen works in English and in Arabic, fully right to left, and each user picks one. There is no German interface, so Ilmoria suits international schools, Arabic and Islamic programmes and English-medium courses rather than German-language schools. See the bilingual interface.

  • International schools and groups

Families apply online with documents and placement tests, parents follow grades and invoices, and each school or campus keeps its own brand, users and data in one account. See Ilmoria for international schools.

  • Arabic and Islamic studies programmes

Arabic and Islamic studies run as ordinary courses, with lessons, PDF course books, quizzes and one gradebook, whether you teach a weekly class or a full programme. See Ilmoria for Islamic and Arabic schools.

  • Language schools and training providers

Arabic-speaking learners can use every screen in Arabic while teachers write lessons in the language they teach. Trainee groups, quizzes with integrity checks and QR-verified certificates cover the rest.

Data protection: what to check

In Germany, the GDPR applies together with the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG), and the Länder add their own data protection acts and school laws, which often set specific rules for processing pupils’ data and for the digital tools schools may use. Public schools usually answer to their Land’s data protection commissioner and need a data processing agreement under Article 28 GDPR with any provider that processes data for them. Because Ilmoria is a US company, check how any transfer of data outside the EU would be covered, along with who can see each record and how long it is kept. In Ilmoria each school’s data is kept separate and each role sees only its own screens. We make no compliance claim on your behalf; see the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and your Land’s commissioner, and take advice from your data protection officer.

Common questions

Is Ilmoria available in German?

No. Ilmoria’s screens are in English and Arabic only, and demo calls and support are in English or Arabic too. It suits international schools, Arabic and Islamic programmes, university departments that teach in English or Arabic, and training providers with Arabic-speaking learners.

Can public schools in Germany use Ilmoria?

Public schools usually choose digital tools within their Land’s rules and platforms, and Ilmoria has no German interface. It is mostly a fit for international and private schools, Arabic and Islamic programmes, universities and training providers. If you are a public school, check with your school authority and data protection officer first.

Where is our data hosted?

We do not promise hosting in Germany or the EU. Ilmoria runs on cloud infrastructure, and if your Land, school authority or board requires a particular hosting location, raise it at the start and we will tell you plainly what is possible before you commit. A full export or deletion of your data is agreed with us in writing during procurement. See our security overview.

Can Arabic-speaking parents and learners use Arabic while staff use English?

Yes. Each person chooses English or Arabic and can switch at any time, and Arabic is fully right to left. Lessons and messages stay in the language they were written in, because Ilmoria never machine-translates what people write.

Can we be invoiced in euros?

Prices are the same in every country and set in US dollars, from $9 per active student a year, with teacher, parent and staff accounts free. On request, we invoice the same amount in euros. See pricing for the plans.
