An English and Arabic LMS for schools and universities in the UK

المملكة المتحدة

Ilmoria is an LMS for UK schools and colleges that teach in English and need Arabic too: independent Islamic schools, evening and weekend madrasas, Arabic supplementary schools, international schools and university Arabic programmes. Courses, exams, the gradebook, admissions and messages to parents run in English, and any user can switch every screen to Arabic, right to left.

Education and training in the UK

Four education systems

Education is devolved, so England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland each run their own system. In England, the Department for Education sets policy, Ofsted inspects state schools and many independent schools, and the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspects schools in associations of the Independent Schools Council. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own inspectorates: Education Scotland, Estyn and the Education and Training Inspectorate.

Terms, qualifications and records

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland the school year runs from September to July in three terms, and students take GCSEs and A levels; Scotland starts in August and has its own qualifications, such as Highers. Universities are autonomous, and in England the Office for Students regulates higher education. Inspectors, universities and families all expect clear records of teaching, progress and results.

Arabic and Islamic education in the UK

Arabic and Islamic studies are taught in independent and state-funded Muslim schools, in evening and weekend madrasas, in supplementary schools run by Arab communities, and in university Arabic and Middle Eastern studies departments. Teaching and inspection happen in English, while many parents are more at home in Arabic.

Learning management for schools and universities in the UK

  • English for staff, Arabic for those who want it

Staff work in English, the language your school is inspected in. A parent, pupil or Arabic teacher can switch every screen to Arabic, fully right to left, and nobody else’s view changes. See the bilingual interface.

  • Arabic and Islamic studies next to GCSE subjects

Each subject is its own course with its own language, so Arabic, Qur’an and Islamic studies sit next to maths and science in one gradebook and one parent portal. See Ilmoria for Islamic and Arabic schools.

  • Evidence ready for inspection

The gradebook keeps every mark with the teacher’s feedback, work is assessed against rubrics, competencies and portfolios show progress over time, and staff confirm and lock final grades. When an inspector asks how you track progress, the record is already there.

  • Admissions and parents

Families apply through a private link, upload documents, sit placement tests in maths, English and science, and sign the handbook and school policies online. Parents follow grades, message the school by topic and print invoices and receipts, and your office records fee payments. See admissions.

  • International schools and school groups

Each school or campus keeps its own brand, users and data in one account, and certificates carry a serial number and a QR code that universities and employers can check online. See Ilmoria for international schools.

Data protection: what to check

In the UK, personal data is governed by the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, whose changes have come into force in stages. The regulator is the Information Commission, which took over from the Information Commissioner on 30 September 2026 and is still known as the ICO; its Children’s code may also be relevant to online services that children use. Review your lawful basis, privacy notices, who can see each record, retention and any transfer of data outside the UK, which matters because Ilmoria is a US company. In Ilmoria each school’s data is kept separate and each role sees only its own screens. We make no compliance claim on your behalf; ask us where data is hosted, read the ICO’s guidance and take advice from your data protection officer or counsel.

Common questions

Does Ilmoria connect to our MIS or to DfE systems?

No. Ilmoria has no ready-made connector to school management information systems, exam boards or Department for Education services, and it has no public API. Schools that keep an MIS decide which records live where. Progress reports export as CSV, and transcripts, certificates and other documents print or save as PDF.

Can Ilmoria report GCSE and A level grades?

Final course grades in Ilmoria use letters on the 4.0 scale, and transcripts show GPA, which suits pupils applying to American universities. During the course, the gradebook shows points and percentages, and teachers track competencies. If you report GCSE grades 9 to 1 or A level grades, ask us in a demo how they would map before you commit.

Does Ilmoria suit evening and weekend madrasas?

Yes. Set up each level as a section with its own courses, teachers and timetable, and use lessons, PDF course books and quizzes between sessions. Parents follow progress and fees in the portal, and teacher and parent accounts are free. The smallest yearly agreement is $1,500, so very small settings should check pricing first.

Can we pay in pounds?

Prices are the same in every country and set in US dollars, from $9 per active student a year. On request, we invoice the same amount in pounds sterling: mention it when you ask for a quote. See pricing for the plans.

Is Ilmoria only for Muslim or Arabic-speaking schools?

No. Ilmoria works fully in English and suits any school, college or training provider. Arabic matters when you have Arabic-speaking families, Arabic or Islamic studies programmes, or pupils who read Arabic first: each of them can switch every screen to Arabic while staff keep working in English.
